Welcome to our Year 6 class page!

This is an exciting and important year where students build confidence, develop independence, and prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. In Year 6, we encourage curiosity, teamwork, and resilience while supporting every child to achieve their best both academically and personally. Reading in year 6

Reading in Year 6 is essential because it strengthens comprehension skills and helps students access learning across all subjects. It builds vocabulary, confidence, and regular reading also supports a smooth transition to secondary school. This is why we have introduced a reading race in school! See below the rewards you can achieve in Year 6.

Maths

In maths we have been working hard on our written calculation methods, particularly long division, and we have applied the methods to solve problems. Knowing our times tables is essential so that we can perform the methods fluently. We have also applied our multiplication facts to calculate the area of rectilinear shapes. Take a look at some of our work.

Writing

In our English lessons we have written emotive diary entries from the perspective of a refugee leaving their home country. We have also written informative non-chronological reports about the heart.

Science

In science we have been learning all about the circulatory system and the function of blood. We have enjoyed working scientifically to investigate the effect exercise has on our heart rate. 

Geography

As part of our geography topic learning about population change, we visited Malton on a fieldtrip. We conducted a traffic survey and also interviewed members of the public to find out their opinions about the town. Back in school, we wrote reports to explain our findings.
