Pupil Leadership

At Amotherby School, we believe in empowering our pupils to take on leadership roles and make a positive impact within our school community. There are numerous exciting opportunities for pupils to develop their leadership skills, including becoming a Lead Learner, where students are recognised for their exemplary behaviour and commitment to learning. Our School Council gives pupils a voice in shaping the future of our school, while the Eco Team works on important environmental initiatives. For those with a passion for writing, the School Newspaper offers the chance to share stories and ideas with the whole school. Additionally, our Playground Buddies support younger students, fostering friendship and teamwork during break times. These leadership roles not only help students grow but also contribute to making Amotherby a vibrant, caring, and thriving school community.

Our House Captains 2025-2026

At Amotherby Community Primary School, being chosen as a House Captain or Vice House Captain is a special honour and a great responsibility. These pupils are selected for consistently demonstrating our school values, showing leadership, teamwork and a positive attitude towards school life.

House Captains and Vice House Captains act as role models for other children across the school. They help to lead their house teams, encourage participation in school events and support younger pupils, all while promoting fairness, respect and a strong sense of community. Through this role, children learn the importance of responsibility, communication, cooperation and leading by example.

Being part of the house leadership team helps pupils to develop confidence and resilience, while giving them a real sense of pride and belonging. It also teaches children that leadership is about kindness, commitment and supporting others. We are very proud of all our House Captains and Vice House Captains and the positive contribution they make to school life.

Eco Team

Our Eco Team plays a key role in helping Amotherby Community Primary School care for the environment and take positive action on climate change. Made up of pupils from across the school, the Eco Team gives children a strong voice in making our school more sustainable.

The Eco Team works closely with staff to support and deliver our Climate Action Plan, which sets out how we aim to reduce our environmental impact, protect nature, and build pupils’ understanding of climate and sustainability. This includes leading initiatives such as energy-saving campaigns, recycling and waste reduction, gardening and biodiversity projects, and sharing important messages through assemblies, displays and events.

Eco Team members act as climate champions, encouraging others to make small changes that make a big difference, both in school and at home. Through their work, pupils develop leadership skills, teamwork and a strong sense of responsibility for the world around them.

Our Climate Action Plan (shown below) guides this work and helps ensure that sustainability is embedded in school life now and for the future.

School Council

At Amotherby Community Primary School, our School Council gives pupils a real voice in shaping school life. Made up of representatives from each class, the Council meets regularly to discuss ideas, share suggestions, and work on projects that make our school an even better place to learn and play. From improving playground facilities to organising events and promoting important causes, the School Council encourages leadership, responsibility, and teamwork, helping pupils develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Community Rangers 2025-2026

Our Community Rangers at Amotherby School help pupils connect with the people around them and build strong links with our local community. Through projects, visits, and activities, Rangers learn about local life, contribute positively, and develop a sense of responsibility and care for others. They play an important role in helping our school be an active, friendly, and supportive part of the wider community.

The Amotherby Chronicle

The Amotherby Chronicle is our school newspaper, proudly written, designed and edited by pupils in Years 5 and 6, who meet weekly to work collaboratively on each edition.

Through their involvement in the newspaper, pupils take on real-life roles such as reporters, editors, designers and interviewers. They learn how to plan content, write for different audiences, edit and improve their work, and meet deadlines — all while working together as a team.

The project plays an important role in developing pupils’ writing skills, including drafting, editing, proof-reading and using an appropriate journalistic style. It also supports wider skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity, responsibility and confidence, giving pupils a genuine sense of purpose and pride in their work.

The Amotherby Chronicle provides a meaningful platform for pupil voice, celebrates life at our school, and helps pupils develop valuable skills that will support them throughout their education and beyond.
