Health & Medical

At Amotherby Community Primary School, the health, safety and wellbeing of every child is extremely important to us. We work closely with parents, carers and health professionals to ensure that children with medical needs are supported safely and confidently throughout the school day.

Miss Cooper leads our medical provision in school, overseeing the day-to-day arrangements for pupils with medical needs. Mrs Wade is our designated Allergy Lead, with responsibility for overseeing the implementation of our Allergy Safety Policy and allergy procedures across school.

Individual Medical Plans

Where a child has a medical condition that requires additional support in school, we may put an Individual Medical Plan (IMP) in place. These plans are developed in partnership with parents/carers and, where appropriate, healthcare professionals. They provide staff with clear information about a child's condition, medication, signs and symptoms, and what action should be taken in an emergency.

We ask parents to keep us informed of any changes to their child's health, medication, allergies or medical needs so that our information and plans can be kept up to date.

Allergy Safety & Benedict's Law

From September 2026, new statutory allergy safety requirements for schools have strengthened the way allergies and the risk of anaphylaxis are managed in school.

At Amotherby, we have an Allergens Policy, allergy awareness and emergency procedures, and appropriate staff training. Children at risk of anaphylaxis have appropriate individual arrangements in place.

In line with the new requirements, the school also holds spare adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens) for emergency use. These are in addition to the adrenaline auto-injectors prescribed to individual children and are stored so that they can be accessed quickly in an emergency.

Emergency Equipment

We have additional emergency equipment available on the school site, including:

• Adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens)
• An Automated External Defibrillator (AED/defibrillator)
• LifeVac emergency airway clearance equipment

Staff receive appropriate information and training so that they understand our medical and emergency procedures.

Our aim is to ensure that children with medical conditions and allergies are able to participate fully and safely in school life, while giving families confidence that appropriate plans, procedures and equipment are in place.
