English at Amotherby CP School

 At Amotherby School, English is at the heart of our curriculum and is taught with passion and purpose from EYFS through to Year 6. From the very start, children develop a love of language through high-quality stories, talk and early writing experiences, where mastering the fundamentals is key, and handwriting and phonics take priority and are woven into every aspect of our learning.  As pupils progress through the school, reading, writing, phonics, spelling and grammar skills are carefully built upon in a structured and engaging way. Lessons are enriched with high-quality texts that inspire creativity, critical thinking and a strong vocabulary. Teachers have high expectations and provide clear guidance and support, enabling every child to achieve their full potential. As a result, our pupils leave Amotherby as confident readers, articulate speakers and capable writers, consistently producing high standards in English.
