Art & Design

Art and design are an important part of life at Amotherby Community Primary School. Our well-structured art and design curriculum helps pupils to develop practical skills, experiment with a range of materials and techniques, and learn about artists and designers from different backgrounds. This work is strengthened by our Artist in Residence, who works with pupils and staff to support high-quality teaching and provide first-hand experience of working with a practising artist. Through these opportunities, pupils build skills, confidence and an appreciation of art as part of their wider learning..

Class 4 – Artist Visit

On Tuesday 9th December, we were delighted to welcome local artist Kane Cunningham to Amotherby School for a whole-day creative workshop exploring the theme of mono printing. Pupils from across the school had the opportunity to learn new artistic techniques, experiment with mixed media, and create their own unique prints.

Kane began the day by demonstrating a range of mono printing methods, showing pupils how simple materials can produce striking and expressive results. Class 4 then explored these techniques first-hand, combining different materials and textures to develop richly layered mixed-media prints. Pupils particularly enjoyed the freedom to experiment, discovering how each print could be completely unique.

Throughout the day, Kane also worked with groups to contribute to a stunning collaborative canvas. The final artwork was inspired by the buildings in our village of Amotherby, bringing together pupils’ prints to celebrate the shapes, structures and character of our local community.

We are thrilled to share that the completed canvas and pupils’ mixed-media mono prints will be displayed in the school hall, where families and visitors can enjoy them over the coming weeks.

A huge thank you to Kane Cunningham for inspiring our young artists and enriching our Art curriculum with this memorable hands-on experience.
