Music
Music at Amotherby
Music plays a vibrant and important role in life at Amotherby Community Primary School. Our curriculum is designed to inspire creativity, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of music. We use Charanga as a starting point for our music curriculum, which is carefully adapted to reflect our pupils, school ethos and musical opportunities.
Music learning is enriched well beyond the classroom. We are a highly musical school, offering ‘Rock the School’ bands, where pupils can learn an instrument, rehearse together and perform as part of a rock band. These experiences help pupils to develop instrumental skills, teamwork and performance confidence.
Our school choir, the Amotherby Singing Stars, is a source of great pride. Choir members regularly perform and take part in large-scale events, including the annual Young Voices concert, giving pupils unforgettable experiences of singing as part of a massed choir.
Our approach to music teaching, progression and enrichment is set out clearly in our Music Development Plan, which can be found on this page. Together, our curriculum and enrichment opportunities ensure that all pupils can access high-quality music education and experience the joy of making music.
Playground Proms Brings Music to Amotherby!
On Thursday 25th June 2026, we were delighted to welcome the fantastic Playground Proms team to Amotherby Community Primary School for a truly memorable musical experience.
Playground Proms travel to schools across the country, introducing children to the excitement of live orchestral music in a fun, interactive and engaging way. Their performances are designed to inspire a love of classical music, giving pupils the opportunity to hear a range of instruments up close while learning about how they work and the important role each one plays within an orchestra.
Our children thoroughly enjoyed the performance, joining in with singing, clapping and musical activities throughout the session. The musicians created a wonderful atmosphere, encouraging pupils to listen carefully, ask questions and appreciate the wide variety of sounds that live instruments can produce.
It was a brilliant afternoon and a fantastic opportunity to enrich our music curriculum. Experiences like these help to develop children's confidence, creativity and appreciation of the arts, while creating lasting memories.
A huge thank you to the Playground Proms team for visiting us—we hope to welcome them back again in the future!
