Welcome to our Year 6 class page!

This is an exciting and important year where students build confidence, develop independence, and prepare for the next stage of their learning journey. In Year 6, we encourage curiosity, teamwork, and resilience while supporting every child to achieve their best both academically and personally. On this class page, you will find photos of some of the great things we get up to!

Reading in year 6

Reading in Year 6 is essential because it strengthens comprehension skills and helps students access learning across all subjects. It builds vocabulary, confidence, and regular reading also supports a smooth transition to secondary school. This is why we have introduced a reading race in school! See below the rewards you can achieve in Year 6.

Curriculum Overviews

DT - creating our own cushions - October 2025

Here are just some of our brilliant dyed fabrics! Our fabrics have been cut, twisted, tied and dyed and are ready to be sewn into a cushion. We thoroughly enjoyed twisting and tying the fabric and then applying the dye. We are really pleased with the outcome!

We made a smoothie using pedal power!!!!

We investigated how many microfibres different materials shed.

Yorkshire Rotters visited and we made a wormery to add to a compost bin!

On the 4th June 2025 we enjoyed a visit to Eden Camp

 History

We used Victorian seaside artifacts in our history lesson.  These were loaned to us from Scarborough Museum.  The children enjoyed exploring the artifacts and discussing which aspect of Victorian Scarborough is the most worth of being commemorated.

We also explored the similarities between Victorian schooling and modern day schooling.

Trip to the University of York

The children observed and analysed various different artwork in the exhibition. We also observed some of the sculptures on the university grounds.

On the 21st May 2025 Year 6 attended the Brownlee Foundation triathlon

This event introduced the children to a triathlon in a fun and inclusive way.  They all thoroughly enjoyed it and were awarded with T-Shirts and Medals.
