Progression Grids
At Amotherby Community Primary School, our curriculum is carefully designed so that pupils build knowledge and skills step by step as they move through the school. To support this, we use skills progression maps for each subject.
Our progression maps clearly set out the key skills, knowledge and vocabulary that pupils are expected to develop from EYFS through to Year 6. They ensure learning is well sequenced, age-appropriate and builds securely on what has been taught before. This helps pupils make strong progress, deepen their understanding and apply their learning confidently in different contexts.
Skills progression maps also support consistency across classes and year groups, enabling teachers to plan high-quality lessons that meet the needs of all pupils. They help us identify prior learning, revisit and strengthen key concepts, and ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum.
By using progression maps, we can be confident that our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and designed to prepare pupils for the next stage of their education.
